Senator Boxer tours Solyndra, a Fremont-based company that manufactures thin-film, tube-shaped solar panels.

Senator Boxer thanks some of Solyndra’s hard-working employees. In September 2009, Solyndra received a $535 million DOE federal loan supported by ARRA to build a large-scale manufacturing plant for solar panels. Solyndra estimates that the construction of phase one of the “Fabrication 2” manufacturing plant will create 3,000 temporary construction jobs, and 1,000 permanent production jobs.
