Boxer Praises President's Nomination of Judge Jacqueline Nguyen for U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) today issued the following statement praising President Obama’s nomination of Judge Jacqueline Nguyen to serve on the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals:
Senator Boxer said, “Judge Nguyen is an outstanding nominee whose experience as a district court judge, Superior Court judge and federal prosecutor will make her a tremendous addition to the Ninth Circuit. If confirmed, she would make history as the first Vietnamese American to serve on the Ninth Circuit, and would provide immediate relief to one of the busiest circuit courts in the nation.”
Judge Nguyen is currently a U.S. District Judge in the Central District of California. She is the first Vietnamese American in U.S. history to serve as a federal district court judge, and is the first female Asian-American judge ever nominated to a federal appellate court.
Judge Nguyen received her A.B. from Occidental College in 1987 and her J.D. from UCLA School of Law in 1991. She began her legal career at the law firm of Musick, Peeler & Garrett LLP, where she was a litigation associate from 1991 to 1994.
In 1995, she joined the United States Attorney’s Office in the Central District of California, serving as an Assistant United States Attorney in the criminal division. Judge Nguyen was appointed to the state bench as Judge of the Superior Court of the County of Los Angeles in 2002 and remained a judge on that court until she was appointed to the federal bench in 2009.
