(NEW) Please continue to challenge and question safety concerns at San Onofre. Also, please continue to keep us informed. Too many citizens know little about San Onofre other than the misleading information generated by the owners and the NRC.
Lenore, Laguna Niguel
(NEW) Thank you for taking the initiative to put pressure on the NRC to take extra steps to ensure that safety is foremost in the operation of nuclear power plants. Leaks and contaminated water and air must not be part of the operation of nuclear plants. The health effects and safety problems are too high. Our residents and workers must be protected.
Margo, Whittier
(NEW) This is a big concern for the Citizens of Southern California and I do appreciate the actions that you have taken to assist us. Nuclear Energy is being used by many Nations to regenerate Electricity but we must make sure that the plants are being properly evaluated on a regular basis.
Joseph, Encinitas
(NEW) I really appreciate your pro-active stance on so many of our environmental and social concerns. Living in San Clemente, and surfing at San Onofre 3-5 times a week, the safety status of the power plant is of special concern to me. I also do not feel they have been completely forth-coming with exactly what took place and am doubtful they would say it was dangerous even if it was. Please keep up the good work. Sincerely,
Barry, San Clemente
(NEW) Your letter to the Chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) seems void of any explanation except to advise your constituents of your magnanimous act. We expect you to do these things as part of your job. The NRC has already done it's thorough evaluation of the possibility of a minor release of vapors from a valve. That vapor was entirely confined to the Containment Dome and confirmed safe by plant officials. Don't make a mountain out of a molehill, Senator, it does not become you. You have WAY more important issues to resolve to initiate a recovery to our economy.
Thomas, Murrieta
(NEW) Thank you for asking for a full investigation into this nuclear power plant. I am very worried about it and Diablo Canyon. I do not feel that nuclear power is safe. I am especially concerned about the storage of spent fuel.
Dorothy, San Francisco
(NEW) I'm SO GLAD you are taking steps to check the San Onofre Power Plant out for safeguards and repairs if needed. I spend most of my days in San Juan Capistrano with my horse. There is not only a large people population in South Orange County but also a good equestrian community. I am very upset that the plant had an incident recently and this can't happen in America PLEASE NO! Thanks again,
Patricia, Costa Mesa
(NEW) Don't you have a multitude of other much more pressing items than to worry about the condition of SONGS, like how to get government spending in line with government revenues? The people at SONGS don't need outside help from you in solving their problems.
John, Dana Point
(NEW) I want to thank you for your concern about San Onofre and other nuclear plants. I feel that these facilities are necessary and should actually be increased, but we don't want to have a Three-mile Island or Chernobyl happen in such a heavily populated area. Timely inspection and maintenance are at the top of the list.
William, San Jose
As a resident of San Clemente, who lives minutes away from San Onofre Power Plant, I just want to thank you for being on top of any possible potential concerns for our safety here. Please continue to keep us informed. All I have heard about so far has come from the local papers. Thank you, again!
Garrett, San Clemente
Thank you! I have been wondering if any of our political representatives were concerned about this issue, as I am.
Cipollini, Annie, Mission Viejo
Please. Don't you have something more important to worry about than San Onofre. There is a whole Department of Energy to take care of that.
D., Aliso Viejo
Thank you so much for monitoring the safety of San Onofre Nuclear Plant. I am opposed to nuclear power and concerned about the safety of all the nuclear plants in California.
Joan
Thank you for taking up this critical issue that could seriously affect those of us who live in Orange County. When I heard the news, I wondered if anyone in Washington would notice. I can rest easier now.
Julie, Long Beach
I strongly support your action to improve public safety by taking a hard look at operations at San Onofre. This aging plant is a potential disaster of catastrophic proportions waiting to happen. If you cannot shut it down due to our current politically-charged energy crunch, please improve out-dated emergency preparedness plans. As an Orange County resident, I will breathe slightly easier the next time I drive by the plant. Thank you for your efforts. Sincerely,
Jim, Costa Mesa
Thanks for requesting NRC to assess San Onofre nuclear site. I would suggest even more stringent investigation and oversight by them of all the nuclear sites for the protection of all Americans. Thanks for your concerns and positive actions.
Jo, South Pasadena
San Onofre is of great concern. We spent many years being a surfing family at the beach there. One day years ago a massive white cloud came blasting out and everyone cleared the beach as fast as they could. It reminded us all of the potential danger that lurked by our favorite spot to spend family time.
Linda, Huntington Beach
I am a resident of Fallbrook, and, as the crow flies, within the first ring of fallout. I have deep concerns over the current operating safety of the plant. Thank you-
Diana, Fallbrook
