When I became Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, one of my priorities was to work with my Senate colleagues to bring national attention and public policy change to global warming.
We have held hearings, viewed for ourselves the dramatic and rapid changes brought about by global warming in Greenland, and worked to craft legislation on global warming that will have the support to become law. And our work is paying off. I am pleased the Committee has begun to consider legislation by Senators Joe Lieberman and John Warner.
This legislation represents the first important step in combating global warming and will provide a framework for change.

"There are some moments in human history when individuals have the ability to make a difference. Sometimes it’s a series of actions by one person, or a group of people, sometimes it’s a single act of defiance, and sometimes it’s the simple telling of a great truth, however inconvenient. And that act can spark enormous change, with long lasting effects."
