Senator Boxer: Funding for National Council for La Raza’s HOPE Fund
June 13 , 2007
I recently joined in an effort to secure federal funding for the National Council of La Raza’s (NCLR) HOPE Fund. As you may know, NCLR’s HOPE fund provides important development assistance and financing to a wide range of affordable housing and community revitalization projects in primarily Latino neighborhoods.
In a letter to the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development, I joined in requesting that the HOPE fund receive $5 million to enable NCLR to continue its work for low-income Latinos throughout the nation. Because of its community support and innovative work, the HOPE fund is able to leverage these relatively small funds into much larger amounts to serve communities. In fact, since 1999, HOPE has been able to raise $8 of private investment for every federal dollar appropriated. With these funds, communities across America have seen the establishment of affordable housing, community health clinics, charter schools and other community development projects.
I am pleased to be able to join in the support for NCLR’s HOPE fund to create stronger, safer and more productive neighborhoods. You can count on me to continue to support its efforts.
Sincerely,

Barbara Boxer
United States Senator
