Senator Boxer: Preparing for College
September 11, 2007
With the beginning of September, most California students have returned to class. The beginning of the school year is a good time for both students and parents to think about and plan for college. In truth, it is never too early to think about getting into college and how to pay for it.
Besides the personal growth and academic possibilities that come with a college degree, there are proven financial benefits. Using data from the U.S. Census, today, a high school graduate can expect to earn just less than $30,000 per year, while a college graduate will earn on average about $55,000 per year. Someone with an advanced degree may garner on average almost $80,000.
On my Senate website, I’m pleased to offer extensive information for both students and parents about preparing for, getting accepted to and paying for college. It also includes an extensive set of links to a variety of government sites with more information.
If you are a student, a parent, or if you know of someone who should be planning for college, now is a good time to learn more about the ins and outs of a college education. I hope you will visit the “Preparing for College” feature on my Senate website..
Sincerely,

Barbara Boxer
United States Senator
