Washington, DC-U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) today announced that Friends of the Madrona Marsh has received her Conservation Champion Award for its commitment to preserving and protecting the Madrona Marsh. Boxer field representative Hattie Stewart presented the award today on behalf of the Senator at the office of Friends of the Madrona Marsh.
"I commend Friends of the Madrona Marsh on all your work to help preserve the marsh and educate others about this environmental treasure," stated Boxer. "I am pleased to honor your dedication with my Conservation Champion Award."
The Madrona Marsh, located in the South Bay, is the last remaining vernal marsh in Los Angeles County. The Friends of Madrona Marsh was created to help promote, preserve and restore the Marsh. The group works with the City of Torrance and the Torrance Unified School District to organize activities, including caring for the native plant garden, restoring habitat, and educating young people.
"Friends of the Madrona Marsh would like to thank Senator Barbara Boxer for her recognition of their efforts," said Tracy Drake, manager of the Madrona Marsh Preserve.
Senator Boxer serves on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. One of the Senate's leading voices for a clean and healthy environment, she established her Conservation Champion Award to recognize individuals and organizations working to promote a safe and healthy environment.
