INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

My offices host interns all year. An internship is a valuable opportunity to see how a Senate office functions, and to contribute to our efforts to serve and represent the people of California.

The Brian M. Ohleyer Internship Program - Washington, D.C.

Brian M. OhleyerI began the Brian M. Ohleyer Internship Program in the spring of 1996, in memory of a young man killed in a tragic automobile accident. To keep Brian's spirit alive, I have dedicated my internship program to his memory, because he was a model of what a young person should be, full of life and expectation.

Brian was a light in every life that he touched, in every community he was a part of, in every school that he went to and in every job he had. And he brought light to my life. He was my friend. He embodied all the qualities I hope are instilled in every Brian Ohleyer intern.

The Joe Serna, Jr. Memorial Internship Program - Sacramento, California

Joe Serna, Jr.U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer established an internship program in memory of Joe Serna, Jr., who served as Mayor of Sacramento from 1993 until his death in 1999. Mayor Serna was a living embodiment of the American dream: a first-generation American who helped to reshape the capital of our nation's most populous state.

The Joe Serna, Jr. Memorial Internship Program is designed to provide experience to highly motivated and enthusiastic young people who plan a career in public service. Those selected for the program will serve in Senator Boxer's Sacramento Field Office.

For information on internships in the Sacramento office, call Majida Wahhab at (916) 448-2787.
