Boxer Statement on New California Unemployment Figures

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) made the following statement today on the new figures showing that California’s unemployment rate was 12.4 percent in December and the state lost 38,800 nonfarm payroll jobs last month:

“The new jobs numbers in California show us that, while the experts say we are technically out of the recession, that's just not the reality for Californians who are out of work or struggling to make ends meet.

“So I am not going to rest until we turn these jobs numbers around. Today, I took part in an important meeting with Senate leadership about upcoming jobs legislation, which would include tax relief for small businesses and critical investments in our roads, highways, bridges and transit systems.

“It is crucial that we get bipartisan support so that we can move quickly and decisively to expand employment opportunities for the people of this country.”
