Boxer Statement on Meeting with Judge Sonia Sotomayor  

I had a wonderful meeting this morning with Judge Sotomayor.  She was warm, smart, and gracious—she went out of her way to meet the young people on my staff and shake their hands.   

I think she is humbled by the response to her nomination by people of every background.   

This meeting reinforced what I felt when President Obama first announced her nomination, which is that he has picked a highly qualified, impressive woman.     

I feel very comfortable with this nomination and believe Judge Sotomayor will be a much-needed addition to the U.S. Supreme Court.  She will bring wisdom and compassion to the Court’s decisions while upholding the rule of law.
