Boxer Requests White House Visit to Honor Little League World Series Champions from Chula Vista

Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) today sent a letter to President Barack Obama celebrating the Park View Little League All Stars Team’s accomplishment as the 2009 Little League World Series Champions. Senator Boxer requested that the players, their families, and coaches be invited to visit the White House in recognition of their victory.

The text of the letter follows:

September 3, 2009

The President
The White House
Washington, DC 20502

Dear Mr. President:

I am delighted to let you know that the Park View Little League All Stars Team from Chula Vista, California recently won the 2009 Little League World Series Championship. They are the first team since 1961 from San Diego County to win a championship.

The Park View Little League All Stars Team rallied from a 3-0 deficit to beat Chinese Taipei team 6-3 to win the championship on August 30, 2009. Along the way, the team shattered the homerun record with 19 homeruns set by Tokyo of 15. Throughout the Series, team members acted with good sportsmanship, determination, and heart. After winning the game, the team graciously invited Chinese Taipei to join them in a victory lap around the field.

It would be an honor for the 12 little league players, their families, and coaches to visit the White House in recognition of their tremendous victory. I hope that you will join me, the San Diego community, the State of California in celebrating this achievement by welcoming them to the White House.

I thank you in advance for your consideration of this matter.

Sincerely,

Barbara Boxer
United States Senator
