Boxer Statement on Senate Passage of Health Care Reform Bill

Washington, DC
– Today, U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) made the following statement on the passage of The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act:

“This is an important moment as we move one step closer to fulfilling the goal that President Teddy Roosevelt promised a century ago – affordable health care for all of America’s families.

“Today we demonstrated that we will no longer stand by while 14,000 Americans lose their health insurance every day, nearly two-thirds of bankruptcies result from a personal health care crisis and California families watch their premiums rise four times faster than their incomes.

“This legislation will make health care more affordable for small businesses and families, end insurance industry abuses, strengthen Medicare, help our seniors afford prescription drugs, and expand coverage to 31 million Americans – all while reducing the deficit.

“I will continue to work with Senator Feinstein to strengthen the bill in conference for Californians and all Americans.”
